Donna Barnes is the Director and founder of The Talem Recruitment Group. Talem encompass several specialist agencies under its wings – Astra, Mitrem, Next Generation Care, Next Generation Education and most recently launched Global Talent Bank. Each agency holds an expertise in either one or a handful of industries, meaning the group can provide recruitment solutions to every corner of a client’s business.
Donna has been in the recruitment industry for over 20 years and in that time has helped to turn regional agencies into national competitors (Mitrem), create and launch new businesses and become a valued consultant for existing companies seeking strategic assistance. Due to her understanding of the industry and the great growth seen throughout the group in a relatively short amount of time, Donna has recently been recognised for her work by becoming a finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year at the Plymouth Herald Business Awards 2016 and Entrepreneur of the Year at the Devon Venus Awards 2016.
During her professional career, Donna has been an active member of the Chamber as well as an advocate for its causes. She uses her excellent connections throughout the city and beyond, her continued passion for local business growth as well as her expertise in recruitment to bring valuable support and ideas to the Chamber’s table. Donna has the ability to get to the heart of Plymouth businesses, understanding the challenges they face and helping champion their successes.
As much as Donna’s heart is in Plymouth, her business gives her the added advantage of being exposed to the national market. This knowledge is beneficial to the Chamber and the city as a whole, as the region strives to further establish itself as an area of commercial excellence.
Donna is known for her open and honest approach whilst ensuring that all business transactions are ethical. She is extremely passionate about Devon, it’s future and maximising the potential she knows it has. Joining the Chamber board of Directors will assist her to do this. Her connections see her working with leaders in both the private and public areas acting as both a coach and mentor.
Away from work, Donna remains a key contributor and promoter of charities on a local and national stage. She regularly devotes time and energy to various projects, and doesn’t seem to be fazed by running long marathons on the weekend.
